Auction Bridge & International Bridge (IB) represent fascinating variants within the Bridge card game family. As the third evolutionary stage of traditional bridge, these games evolved from straight bridge (also known as bridge whist), which itself descended from whist and bridge whist.

Key Differences from Contract Bridge

This variation presents significant scoring differences compared to contract bridge:

• Distinct trick scoring system
• Unique bonus scoring mechanics
• Different penalty scoring approach
• No vulnerability concept exists

Gameplay Mechanics

The trump selection process remains nearly identical to contract bridge, though slightly less complex:

The dealer initiates trump selection and must declare intentions to win:

• Minimum of the odd trick in trump suit
• Alternatively at No-trumps

Bidding follows different priority rules:

• Higher point contracts take precedence over trick count
• Example: 3 Spades (27 points) outranks 4 Clubs (24 points)

Scoring System

Tricks beyond six score as follows:

• Notrumps: 10 points per trick
• Spades: 9 points per trick
• Hearts: 8 points per trick
• Diamonds: 7 points per trick
• Clubs: 6 points per trick

A game requires 30 total points.
