Gotham Knights: A Potential Nintendo Switch 2 Release?

Speculation is swirling that Gotham Knights could be among the third-party titles launching on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. This intriguing possibility stems from a game developer's resume, as highlighted by YouTuber Doctre81 on January 5, 2025.

The resume, belonging to a developer with a history at QLOC (2018-2023), lists several notable games including Mortal Kombat 11 and Tales of Vesperia. Crucially, it also mentions Gotham Knights, specifying development for two unreleased platforms. While one could potentially be the original Nintendo Switch (given a prior, now-removed ESRB rating), the game's performance issues on more powerful consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S cast doubt on this. The second unreleased platform strongly suggests the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Previous Switch Speculation and ESRB Rating Removal

Released in October 2022 for PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X, Gotham Knights briefly appeared slated for the original Nintendo Switch after receiving an ESRB rating. This fueled rumors of a potential reveal during a Nintendo Direct. However, the game never materialized on the original Switch, and the ESRB rating was subsequently removed.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, in a May 7, 2024 tweet, promised further details on the Switch's successor "within this fiscal year," ending in March 2025. A subsequent tweet confirmed backwards compatibility with original Switch software and Nintendo Switch Online. The use of physical cartridges, however, remains unconfirmed.
