Application Description

Digital Evolution of Devarattam

This application was developed as part of my initiative, "Digital Revolution of Devarattam." It honors Kalaimamani awardees, including retired teacher Mr. M. Kumararaman, Kalaimani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, who received the Kalaimamani, Kalaimani, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards respectively for their contributions to Devarattam. I dedicate this app to these respected legends, my Guru Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the beloved icons of Devarattam. The primary goal of the Devarattam app is to promote awareness of Devarattam and its award recipients. It provides detailed information about this traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu. Historically and today, the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community has performed Devarattam. The dance consists of 32 to 72 steps, with 32 being the foundational movements, while the additional steps are variations of the core sequence.

Devarattam dancers hold a kerchief in each hand and wear Salangai (ankle bells) on each leg. They perform to the rhythm of a traditional musical instrument known as the Deva Thunthumi.
