Elven Curse

A simple non-field RPG where you escape a cursed forest. This game focuses on a hunter's journey to escape a mysterious and dangerous forest.

- Prologue -

You're the village's best hunter. A national hunting tournament is held near the royal capital, and you've traveled far to compete. After your first night camping, you wake to find the campsite deserted – all the other hunters have vanished. National guards oversee the tournament, but they're nowhere to be found either. You attempt to return to the forest entrance, only to find yourself lost, trapped in a disorienting loop. This is no ordinary wilderness.

- The Elven Curse -

With the aid of a peculiar quarter-elf, you must escape the cursed forest. Gameplay is incredibly straightforward, utilizing a maximum of three buttons at any given time (excluding the main menu).

- Character Creation -

While character customization is limited, you can reroll your stats repeatedly. Stat increase rates upon leveling are only visible on this screen; this information is unavailable during gameplay. Losing all your life force means game over. Having fewer than two "talismans" also results in character loss.

- Foria, the Peddler Quarter-Elf -

A boy (or perhaps not?) encountered in the forest, claiming to be a quarter-elf and older than you. He offers no direct help, but secretly aids your escape using the forest's ancient spirits.

- Story and Setting -

The prologue unfolds like a picture story, with Foria's dialogue adding a cheerful contrast to the game's overall mysterious and somewhat ominous tone. The world is presented through concise and evocative language.

- Exploration Mode -

Forest paths connect various base areas. Exploring all "unexplored" areas within each section allows progression. Exploration success is determined by "fog depth," which is influenced by your character's stats. When your life force is depleted, you can use poison to restore it, or utilize rare "talismans." You may also choose to return to Foria for assistance.

- Beast Encounters & Hunter Battles -

Fierce creatures roam the forest, from wolves and dogs to surprisingly aggressive frogs and rabbits. Killing them yields hides for trading with Foria. Unlike typical RPGs, battles do not grant experience. The goal is escape, and battles are entirely avoidable (though this requires luck or strategic play).

As a hunter, you use a bow and arrow. You can only shoot safely from a distance. Maintaining this distance allows attacks without counterattacks, but closing the gap leads to a one-sided assault. You can either withdraw to regain distance, or use a "flash" ball (provided by Foria) for guaranteed escape.

- Cloak & Layering System -

Using collected branches, resin, and leather, you create a cloak that enhances your abilities. You can layer up to three cloaks, with ability increases stacking additively. Cloaks may also offer vitality restoration, but they can tear and become unusable. This is the only equipment modification available.
