New 2025 Alienware Aurora 16 and 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available
Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its new mainstream lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, dubbed the "Alienware Aurora." The first 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, not to be confused with the desktop, is the more budget-friendly option, featuring an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. The higher-end Alienware Aurora 16X comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. Both models are expected to start shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both the Aurora 16 and 16X can be pre-ordered with the RTX 5060 graphics, though these are on preorder status with no shipping ETA as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops diverge from the traditional gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These laptops adopt a more minimalist and sleek design, resembling standard yet stylish laptops with a thin profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard illumination, similar to Apple MacBooks. Despite their unassuming exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are packed with high-performance gaming components and a robust Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter, thanks to more efficient components like the low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and the RTX 5070 graphics card with an 85W TGP rating. The Aurora 16X, on the other hand, is slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate enhanced cooling, offering a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and the RTX 5070 graphics with a maximum 115W TGP rating.
Both laptops are significantly more affordable than the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000. They are also more portable, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than a similarly sized Area-51 16" laptop. Given the current trends in Nvidia GPU prices, which are expected to rise according to Tom's Hardware, significant price drops are unlikely in the near future.
Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model
For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For just an additional $300, you receive a markedly superior laptop with several worthwhile upgrades. Here's a breakdown of what you get:
- Better display: 2560x1600 resolution with a 240Hz G-Sync refresh rate versus 2560x1600 at 120Hz.
- More powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX compared to the Intel Core 9 270H.
- Higher TGP rating for RTX 5070: 115W TGP as opposed to 85W TGP.

- Double the storage: 2TB versus 1TB.

- RGB keyboard.
- Thunderbolt 4.0.
