The Samsung S90D is the previous-generation 2024 model. Although Samsung has launched the new S90F for 2025, it retails for more than twice the price. The S90D comes with Samsung's proprietary quantum dot (QD) OLED panel. QD OLED displays are brighter than conventional OLED screens while preserving the exceptional color fidelity, wide color gamut, and expansive viewing angles that OLED technology is known for. In comparison to traditional LED LCD televisions, OLED TVs deliver superior picture quality, near-perfect black levels, virtually infinite contrast ratios, and ultra-fast pixel response times.
In addition to its OLED technology, the Samsung S90D includes all the features you'd expect from a top-tier gaming TV. It has a native 120Hz refresh rate that can be overclocked to 144Hz as well as four HDMI 2.1 ports capable of handling 4K gaming at 120Hz on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X consoles. The S90D also supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode.
Is this a good TV for the Nintendo Switch 2?
While the Nintendo Switch 2 is a current-generation console, it has much more modest television requirements compared to the PS5 or Xbox Series X. When the Switch is docked and connected to a TV, it can output a 4K signal at up to 60 frames per second. It can reach 120fps at 1080p resolution, though the bandwidth needed for both settings is practically identical. Curiously, the console doesn't support VRR when docked—that feature is restricted to handheld mode only. Nevertheless, the Switch 2 will still benefit tremendously from Samsung's stunning OLED display.
