Spider-Man: Brand New Day to Precede Avengers: Doomsday, Fans Anticipate Street-Level Story

by Dylan Jul 24,2025

Disney's recent announcement to postpone Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars means fans will wait longer to see Earth's mightiest heroes unite on screen again.

Avengers: Doomsday is now set for release on December 18, 2026, seven months later than planned. Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027. Amid these shifts, Spider-Man remains a hot topic among fans.

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will return in the eagerly awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hitting theaters on July 31, 2026. The film will continue Peter’s journey after No Way Home, where his identity was erased from the world’s memory.

Initially, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was slated to release after Avengers: Doomsday, positioned as a Tom Holland-centric chapter between Doomsday and Secret Wars. Reports suggested Disney and Sony were exploring a multiverse-driven plot in line with the MCU’s current trajectory.

Now, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving before either Avengers film and yet to begin filming, fans hope this shift allows for a more grounded, street-level story set in the Marvel universe.

Consider the earlier scenario: Avengers: Doomsday likely ends on a major cliffhanger, similar to Avengers: Infinity War, setting up high stakes for the next film. As a key Avenger, Spider-Man’s involvement—or absence—would need explanation. Brand New Day would have had to navigate this, either by tying into the cliffhanger, being set earlier, or sidestepping the larger MCU stakes.

“This changes everything for Spider-Man 4,” one fan posted on Reddit about the delay, noting Brand New Day’s new position before both Avengers films. “It doesn’t have to fit between them anymore.”

“If Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t delayed, it’s likely not a multiverse battle story,” another fan speculated, referencing the comic’s Secret Wars setting where Marvel heroes are trapped in a holding location.

Spider-Man fans are eager to see the character return to swinging through New York’s streets rather than being pulled into cosmic Avengers conflicts. Many view Disney’s delay as a positive development.

“This is the best news for Spider-Man 4,” one fan wrote.

“With Brand New Day coming before Doomsday, it opens the door for a grounded story, aligning with recent casting rumors,” another noted, pointing to speculation about villains suited for a New York-based tale.

Earlier this month, Liza Colón-Zayas, known for playing Tina Marrero on FX’s The Bear, was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Fans speculate she may portray the mother of Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man expected to debut in live-action following his success in Sony’s Spider-Verse animated films.

Disney’s schedule changes also removed an untitled Marvel project previously set for February 13, 2026. Fans believe this was a placeholder for the long-delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which may now be excluded from this MCU saga entirely.

Other Marvel release dates, November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, have been reassigned to “Untitled Disney” films. If these are unrelated to Marvel, the MCU’s film slate will be relatively sparse in the coming years.

In 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit theaters in July, while Disney+ will debut TV series Ironheart and Wonder-Man.

Next year’s Disney+ lineup includes Daredevil: Born Again’s second season in spring, a Punisher special presentation, and Vision Quest, the Paul Bettany-led series now quietly in production.
