Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has subtly teased the eagerly awaited Resident Evil 9 right under our noses. To celebrate reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by infected enemies sporting party hats, heading towards a church.

The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. The camera pans back to show a jubilant Leon fist-pumping in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign. But here's where it gets interesting: turn that sign on its side, and the boards spell out the Roman numeral "IX," or the number 9.

While it's conceivable that this could be a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that there's no lower plank on the sign in earlier parts of the video, indicating it was added purposefully. "I know what you did here," said one astounded viewer, accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi. "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi said at the time. "But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Speculation suggests, though not officially confirmed, that the game could be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
