by Simon May 15,2025

After a remarkable 25-year hiatus, Capcom's beloved role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC gaming. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and in Europe a year later, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. Now, thanks to GOG's ongoing Preservation Program, fans can once again dive into the adventures of Ryu, a man with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, as he joins forces with other warriors to thwart an emperor's destructive ambitions.

GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV to ensure it runs smoothly on modern PCs. The game is now available DRM-free on their platform, fully optimized for Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in both English and Japanese, with enhanced graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer. New display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction enhance the visual experience. Additionally, the audio engine has been improved, bringing back missing environmental sounds and offering new configuration options for a more immersive gameplay experience.
