Tentacle Tactics

Nu Udra presents a challenging fight in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its massive tentacles grant it extensive reach, making evasion tricky. However, these same tentacles are also within reach for melee fighters, offering prime targets. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but proceed cautiously—these limbs pack a powerful punch.

Targeting the Maw

Ranged weapon users have more strategic options. The optimal attack point is Nu Udra's mouth, though locating it can be challenging due to its predominantly black hide. Despite the difficulty, targeting the mouth, a 4-star weakness, remains highly recommended. The head is a viable alternative, boasting a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, but also effective for blunt and cut damage.

Harnessing Watermoss

Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity in Monster Hunter Wilds. Beyond its limb attacks, it unleashes fiery assaults, occasionally even engulfing itself in flames, inflicting the dangerous Fireblight debuff. Using Watermoss is strongly recommended to mitigate this threat and allow for safer attacks.

Fire Resistance is Key

For those struggling, fire-resistant gear is essential. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is highly recommended. Consider equipping decorations that reduce elemental damage, such as the Fire Res Jewel or the Stream Jewel (enhancing Water Attack).

Avoiding the Grasp

Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly perilous. If too close, it may ensnare you with its tentacles, following up with a fiery blast. During the brief pause after the grab, use a knife to break free, or exploit its weak point with a Slinger.

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster until it nears death (indicated by a skull icon near its health bar). Lure it into the trap using meat or strategically position yourself behind it as it targets you. Once trapped, quickly use a Tranquilizer—you have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
