David Fincher and Brad Pitt's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" Sequel Heads to Netflix
David Fincher and Brad Pitt are reportedly reuniting to bring to life a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, based on a script originally penned by Quentin Tarantino. This exciting development comes from The Playlist, which reports that the Se7en duo is working to produce this unexpected project for Netflix, thereby continuing Fincher's strong association with the streaming service. If all goes according to plan, the currently untitled sequel will see Brad Pitt reprise his role as the stunt double, Cliff Booth.
The journey of the script into Fincher's hands is a tale in itself. It is an evolved version of what was previously known as The Movie Critic, a film that Tarantino had once considered as his final project before shelving it last year. Determined not to let the concept fade away, Tarantino has entrusted Fincher with the task of breathing life into it.
According to The Playlist, Netflix has secured the screenplay for $20 million and plans to allocate a budget of $200 million. The film is slated to begin shooting in California in July, just three months away. While no other casting has been confirmed, it's noted that Leonardo DiCaprio will not be returning as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are fully committed to this project, setting aside all other endeavors to focus on it.
Deadline has also confirmed that a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is indeed in development, with Pitt having received Tarantino's blessing to present the script to Fincher, leading to this surprising collaboration.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019, is considered a monumental addition to Tarantino's illustrious filmography. The sequel, tentatively referred to as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2, faces the challenge of living up to its predecessor's legacy, which concluded with a definitive and impactful ending. However, the world of the original film has been further explored in other mediums.
In 2021, Tarantino released a novelization of the movie, which not only retold the events but also delved deeper into the 1960s California setting. This book introduced some intriguing details about Cliff Booth's backstory, including clarification on whether he indeed killed his wife—a plot point hinted at in the film. The novel's significance is expected to grow once the sequel is released, though its exact relevance to the new film remains to be seen.
