Destiny 1 Gets Surprising Update Seven Years Later
Summary
- The original Destiny Tower unexpectedly received a festive update featuring lights and decorations.
- This accidental update might be a remnant of a canceled event, "Days of the Dawning," linked to a forgotten schedule date.
- Bungie hasn't commented on the surprise, allowing players to enjoy it before its likely removal.
Seven years after its prime, the original Destiny's Tower has sprung a surprise. While Destiny 2 has taken center stage since 2017, the original game remains accessible, and its social hub, the Tower, recently received an unannounced update, adorned with lights and decorations.
Although Destiny 2 boasts a wealth of content and ongoing updates, nostalgia for the original experience persists among some players. Bungie continues to integrate legacy content into the sequel, including classic raids and exotic weapons. However, a recent discovery within the original Destiny's Tower has captivated players.
On January 5th, reports surfaced online detailing a peculiar update to the Tower. Players found Ghost-shaped lights, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning, although the overall atmosphere differed. No new quests or in-game messages accompanied the decorations, adding to the mystery.
Accidental Destiny Tower Update: A Scrapped Event's Ghost?
The lack of official explanation from Bungie has sparked speculation. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed towards a scrapped event called "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Breshi's video highlights the striking similarity between unused assets from this canceled event and the current Tower decorations. This suggests the decorations may have been assigned a future date in the game's schedule, a date long past, with the assumption Destiny 1 would no longer be active.
As of this writing, Bungie hasn't addressed the unexpected Tower update. 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. While not an official event, players are currently able to enjoy this unexpected throwback before Bungie removes it.
