Digimon Story: Time Stranger, the latest chapter in the Digimon game series, follows the acclaimed Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth from 2015. However, a recent update has left console players disappointed with a key technical detail.

According to the game’s Japanese website, this upcoming Digimon RPG will run at 30fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while the PC version achieves a smoother 60fps. Additionally, HDR support is absent across all platforms. It’s unclear if these specs extend to the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Fans are vocal about their frustration, as the game’s trailers showcased stunning visuals, raising expectations for a higher frame rate on consoles. On Reddit, players questioned the developers’ choice, noting that the game’s graphics appear comparable to titles like Persona 5, which run at 60fps.

Some fans are more lenient, pointing out that, as a turn-based RPG like its predecessors, a 60fps frame rate may not be essential for consoles. Others humorously noted that Time Stranger’s performance surpasses Pokémon games, which often hover between 30 and 40fps.

Despite the debate, excitement remains high for a new Digimon title. Featuring over 450 beloved Digimon and a fresh cast of characters, Time Stranger aims to elevate the Digimon Story series with a classic JRPG experience.

Set for October 3 Release

During the PlayStation State of Play on June 4, Bandai Namco confirmed that Time Stranger will launch on October 3. The release date trailer highlighted the game’s narrative, centered on time travel and parallel worlds.

Gameplay footage also unveiled an enhanced user interface and expanded Digimon customization options. A new ride feature lets players explore the game world atop select Digimon. Compared to earlier titles, Time Stranger offers larger maps with diverse environments.

The trailer concluded with Bandai Namco revealing the game’s editions, including Standard Retail, Digital Standard, Digital Deluxe, Digital Ultimate, Ultimate Retail, and Collector’s editions. All are available for pre-order and include the following bonuses:
