Nintendo's Switch 2 Supply to Meet US Demand

by Mia Dec 18,2025

Will it be difficult to find a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and throughout the rest of 2025? According to Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, the company is confident it will have sufficient stock to satisfy consumer demand "through the holidays."

In an interview with IGN about the opening of the Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted that while the response to Switch 2 has been "strong," Nintendo has a strategy in place to ensure a "continuous supply of units" throughout 2025. The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.

"Last week, [Nintendo President] Mr. [Shuntaro] Furukawa announced that our forecast includes 15 million units of Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million units of the original Nintendo Switch for the fiscal year," Bowser stated.

"That forecast was designed to match the sales performance of the original Nintendo Switch during its first 10 months on the market. For the U.S. market, we are confident our production and supply will meet consumer demand. We've seen an enthusiastic early response to the Nintendo Switch 2, as reflected by pre-order numbers, and we have a plan to maintain a steady availability of stock through the holiday season."

This is encouraging news for anyone hoping to buy a Switch 2 in the U.S. this year. Pre-orders for the console have certainly been challenging. Following a delay caused by tariffs, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 began on April 24, with the console's price remaining at $449.99 — and the experience unfolded just as you might imagine. Meanwhile, Nintendo has alerted U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store, clarifying that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to exceptionally high demand.

However, Bowser's recent remarks suggest that everyone who has pre-ordered a Switch 2 should eventually receive one. For additional details, refer to IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.

This comes amid ongoing concerns about tariffs and the possibility that Nintendo might have to increase the price of the Switch 2 and its games in response. We asked Bowser to what degree he could assure customers that the Switch 2 would maintain its $450 price both at launch and beyond.

In response, Bowser remained somewhat non-committal but indicated that Nintendo had "made a commitment" by setting the Switch 2's price at $450 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $500.

"By announcing the pricing—$449 for the standalone unit and $499 for the bundle with Mario Kart World—we made a commitment," Bowser explained.

"We felt it was vital to establish that price point, even after new tariffs were announced, to reassure consumers they could purchase at that price. Of course, the situation remains fluid, and it's hard to predict what might happen in the coming weeks or months. Still, our commitment is to navigate current and potential market changes to ensure our products, including the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, remain as accessible as possible."
