Dune: Awakening will launch on May 20 as a complete game, bypassing the early access phase. Funcom made this clear in their latest Steam blog post dated March 21, which also detailed the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support.

This multiplayer survival game, inspired by the iconic 1965 sci-fi novel, stands out from other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online by not requiring a monthly subscription. Instead, Funcom promises to enrich the game through free updates that will introduce new content, features, and enhancements.

With a track record of supporting live service games, Funcom is well-positioned to keep Dune: Awakening thriving post-launch. Their portfolio includes Anarchy Online, marking its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions.

Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed

Following the announcement, pre-orders for Dune: Awakening went live on March 24, as detailed on the game's official website. The game offers three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate, each with its own set of bonuses.

Pre-ordering any edition grants players two exclusive in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.

Opting for the Deluxe or Ultimate edition provides a 5-day head start, allowing access to the game from May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:

• Season Pass: Access to 4 DLCs. The initial DLC features placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud. The subsequent three DLCs are scheduled for later release.
• Sardaukar Bator Armor: The intimidating armor of the elite Sardaukar military force, which hunts players in the game.
• One copy of the base game.

The Ultimate edition encompasses everything in the Deluxe edition, plus:
