Rumors of an Oblivion remake have circulated for years, with a 2023 prediction suggesting a 2024 or 2025 launch. Xbox insider Jez Corden further fueled the speculation in late December 2024, forecasting a January 2025 unveiling at an Xbox Developer Direct. Although unconfirmed, previous Developer Directs in January 2023 and 2024 lend credence to this possibility.

Adding weight to the rumors, a Technical Art Director at Virtuos – a studio reportedly involved – posted on LinkedIn about working on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While not explicitly named, many believe this refers to Oblivion, with the Unreal Engine 5 mention suggesting a full remake rather than a remaster. Separately, plans for a Fallout 3 remaster surfaced in late 2023, though its current status remains unclear.
