Speculation surrounding a Final Fantasy 9 (FF9) remake has been reignited after Square Enix updated its 25th-anniversary website. The addition of new profiles for beloved characters like Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner is being interpreted by fans as a potential hint of an upcoming FF9 remake.

Earlier this year, the launch of FF9's 25th-anniversary website itself sparked discussions about a possible remake. This speculation intensified weeks later when Square Enix shared a quote on Twitter from Vivi, the franchise's adored black mage.

The latest website update features small icons for four out of the eight main party members. Clicking on these icons reveals short character descriptions accompanied by new artwork from Toshiyuki Itahana, FF9's original character designer, known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo spinoffs. These snippets provide an overview of each character's personality and motivations within the story.

While no official announcements have been made, the significant effort and detail Square Enix has devoted to this anniversary celebration have led many to anticipate a major reveal for the title in the near future. For now, fans of FF9 will need to stay tuned for further updates regarding a potential remake.

Anniversary Merchandise Now Available

In addition to the website updates, Square Enix has expanded its 25th-anniversary merchandise collection for the game. New offerings include a replica of Garnet’s necklace, a wearable version of Vivi’s hat, a set of acrylic standees, and several other items.

Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now available for pre-order, with an expected release date of November 15. The necklace is priced at approximately 38,500 yen (about $260). Meanwhile, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat is also open for reservations and is scheduled to release on September 6, costing around 17,600 yen (roughly $120).

Another standout item is the FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection, which features eight distinct designs. These stands are sold as blind boxes, meaning fans won't know which design they’ve purchased until they open the package.
