Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary Merchandise Revealed

Square Enix has unveiled an official anniversary website marking 25 years since Final Fantasy 9's original release. The site announces "various commemorative projects including merchandise and collaborations" throughout the anniversary year.

The celebration features extensive FF9 memorabilia including detailed character figurines, plush toys, vinyl records, soundtrack CDs, and illustrated storybooks. Additional announcements are promised as the July anniversary date approaches.

Originally launching on PlayStation in July 2000, Final Fantasy 9 has sold nearly 9 million copies worldwide. Following its 2012 inclusion in Square Enix's Ultimate Box collection, the game received remastered mobile and PC ports between 2016-2017, then debuted on modern consoles in 2019.

Possible Final Fantasy 9 Remake and Seemingly Forgotten Anime

Long-Awaited FF9 Anime and Remake Speculation Resurfaces

The anniversary announcement has reignited discussions about potential remake plans, following the successful Final Fantasy VII remake project. Ranked fourth in NHK's 2019 poll of Japan's favorite Final Fantasy titles, the classic RPG remains a prime candidate for modernization.

Meanwhile, the status of the previously announced FF9 anime adaptation remains uncertain. Revealed in 2021 as "Final Fantasy IX: The Black Mages' Legacy," the series was planned as a sequel following Vivi's descendants. Original production partner Cyber Group Studios' 2024 bankruptcy left the project's future in question, though multiple companies have expressed interest in reviving development.
