Fiction Streamers Win Hazelight Studios Trip for Completing Secret Stage
The gaming world was recently set abuzz when two Chinese streamers, sharkOvO and E1uM4y, conquered the notoriously challenging "Laser Hell" secret stage in Split Fiction, earning themselves a trip to Hazelight Studios. This feat, showcased in a video on BiliBili, involved a specific sequence of actions in the Isolation level, leading to a laser-filled platform challenge. Their success was met with personal congratulations from Hazelight Founder Josef Fares via a video message, revealing that even most developers struggled with the level. Following the video's popularity, Fares took to Twitter (X) to reaffirm his promise, inviting the duo to Sweden for an early look at the studio's next project.
In a recent interview on The Friends Per Second podcast, Fares shared insights into Hazelight's relationship with publisher EA and hinted at the studio's next game. Despite the success of Split Fiction, which Fares described as uniquely special compared to his previous works, the team's focus has swiftly shifted to new horizons. Fares mentioned that while they started working on their next project just a month ago, details remain under wraps due to its early stage. However, he emphasized the excitement surrounding the new venture, assuring fans that more information would be available in three to four years.
Fares also shed light on Hazelight's autonomy with EA, stating that the publisher supports their creative decisions without interference. This freedom has allowed Hazelight to thrive, becoming one of EA's most successful studios, despite the publisher's mixed reputation in the gaming community.
On the heels of these developments, Split Fiction released its first update on March 17, addressing community feedback with fixes to in-game mechanics, online play glitches, and localization issues. Additionally, the game achieved a significant milestone by selling over 2 million copies within its first week, outpacing the initial sales of Hazelight's 2021 Game of the Year, It Takes Two.
Split Fiction is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To keep up with the latest updates and news, be sure to check out our comprehensive article below!
