Everything Announced at the Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Tokyo Game Show 2025 Special Stage Event
A Brief Overview of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
Square Enix presented a dedicated live showcase for the upcoming remaster of the acclaimed 1997 PlayStation tactical RPG, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The event was guided by Game Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, Co-Director Fumiko Yokoyama, and Producer Shoichi Matsuzawa. Following the initial introductions, Shinnosuke Tachibana, the voice actor for protagonist Ramza Beoulve, joined the panel.
The team began with a concise history of the game's origins. Originally released in 1997 on the PlayStation, Final Fantasy Tactics depicted a war-ravaged Ivalice where noble houses competed for dominance while religious and magical conspiracies threatened to destabilize the kingdom. In this setting, Ramza Beoulve becomes entangled in class conflicts and supernatural forces linked to Zodiac Stones, artifacts sought after by various factions.
This narrative serves as the backdrop for strategic battles across maps with diverse elevations. As a remaster, Square Enix has added features absent from the original release, including full voice acting in multiple languages, an enhanced user interface, and graphical improvements. However, fans seeking the authentic 1997 experience can choose Classic Mode, which preserves the original aesthetic while incorporating quality-of-life upgrades such as auto-save functionality and higher resolution support.
Later in the presentation, developers posed a rhetorical question regarding whether veteran players should revisit the title or if newcomers would enjoy it, answering with a bold slide that declared, "Of course!"
In-Depth Talk With Ramza’s Voice Actor, Shinnosuke Tachibana
During the event, Shinnosuke Tachibana discussed Ramza’s character development, noting that players will witness his growth throughout the journey. He expressed hope that fans would engage with and support Ramza's story. His performance reflects this evolution, portraying a more mature version of the character over time. Tachibana also highlighted the engaging nature of the script, emphasizing its serious themes and the trials Ramza endures.
Tachibana and Co-Director Yokoyama shared insights into their recording process, mentioning grueling schedules that included three-hour morning sessions over four months. Despite the intensity, they laughed about the experience, appreciating how it contributed to a polished final product.
When asked about his favorite character aside from Ramza, Tachibana mentioned strong personalities like Argath and particularly Wiegraf, whose storyline he found compelling.
Final Fantasy Tactics Gameplay Preview
Co-Director Yokoyama demonstrated gameplay through a combat sequence set at Zeirchele Falls (Zirekile Falls in Japanese). In the scene, characters Delita and Ovelia are fleeing but encounter knights from the Order of the Northern Sky. Ramza, Agrias, and their allies soon arrive to join the fray.
The preview highlighted abilities used by Monk, Black Mage, White Mage, and the exclusive Holy Knight classes as they defeat enemies with style. The battle concluded decisively in favor of the player, with the Black Mage emerging as the standout performer.
Wrapping up on a positive note, the event featured closing remarks from the guests and reminded attendees that the game launches just two days later, encouraging fans to look forward to its release.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is scheduled for release on September 30, 2025 (October 1, 2025 for Steam) across Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. To keep up with the latest news, please refer to our article below!
