The Blood of Dawnwalker: A Dark Fantasy RPG Unveiled

Rebel Wolves' recently revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world dark fantasy action RPG, promises a compelling narrative experience. The game reveal event, held January 16th, offered a deeper look into its story and gameplay.

Embark on Coen's Journey

Players take on the role of Coen, a Dawnwalker—a being existing between human and vampire—in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Narrative Director Jakub Szamalek describes Coen as an emotionally complex and relatable protagonist, unlike typical game heroes. Coen's quest: save his family within a 30-day/night timeframe, against the backdrop of a crumbling civilization and the tyrannical vampire Brencis. While the game operates on a modified time scale, allowing for extensive gameplay.

The reveal trailer showcases Coen's unique abilities, hinting at both superhuman agility and occult magic, distinct from typical fantasy spellcasting. The developers clarified on Discord that the magic system is grounded in ritual, amulets, and summoning, rather than flamboyant displays of power.

A Narrative Sandbox with Rich Character Interactions

Despite a central objective, The Blood of Dawnwalker emphasizes player agency. The game is designed as a "narrative sandbox," offering numerous paths to achieve Coen's goal. This nonlinear approach promises a dynamic world shaped by player choices.

To maintain the focus on this single-player experience, multiplayer or co-op modes are absent. However, the game will feature romanceable characters from diverse races, including uriashi and kobolds, adding depth to Coen's solitary journey.

Developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date is yet to be announced.
