Gears of War: Reloaded Launches Simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox
The much-anticipated release date for Gears of War: Reloaded has been unveiled, with the game set to launch on PS5 simultaneously with Xbox. Dive into the details of its multiplatform rollout and discover the enhancements awaiting fans.
Gears of War: Reloaded Release Date Announced
Multiplatform Release
Gears of War has long been celebrated as an Xbox exclusive, a cornerstone of the Microsoft console's iconic franchises. However, in a groundbreaking move, Xbox announced via a Twitter (X) post on May 6 that Gears of War: Reloaded will be available across all platforms, including PS5, starting August 26.
This strategic shift aligns with Xbox's broader initiative to expand its exclusive titles to different platforms. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, in a January interview with GamerTag Radio, emphasized their commitment to this approach, stating, "We love our platform and our hardware but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building."
The move hints at the possibility that the forthcoming Gears of War: E-Day might also adopt a multiplatform release strategy similar to Reloaded. While Xbox has not confirmed this yet, fans are eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding Xbox's exclusive titles.
Faithful Remaster and Natively Optimized
The announcement of Reloaded came as a pleasant surprise to fans, especially since the original game was already remastered with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in 2015. In a detailed Xbox Wire post on May 5, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump shared insights into what players can expect from this new release.
Crump highlighted the significance of the Gears of War franchise as it approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026. He stated, "As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever."
Performance-wise, Gears of War: Reloaded significantly enhances upon its 2015 predecessor. While the Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p and 30fps during the campaign, with 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded promises a leap forward with 4K resolution at 60fps in the campaign and an impressive 120fps in multiplayer. The game also boasts 4K assets, remastered textures, enhanced post-processing visual effects, improved shadows and reflections, and more.
According to the post, "Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost — this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression."
Additionally, owners of The Ultimate Edition prior to the announcement will receive a free upgrade to Reloaded. A code for the upgrade will be sent before launch via a direct message to eligible Xbox accounts.
Gears of War: Reloaded is slated for release on August 26 and will be priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game will also be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, ensuring immediate access for subscribers.
