Guide to Unlocking Path of Exile 2: Ritual
Path of Exile 2: A Comprehensive Guide to Ritual Endgame Events
Path of Exile 2 introduces four major endgame map events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a revived mechanic from previous PoE leagues, detailing how to initiate events, understand mechanics, utilize the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, conquer the Pinnacle boss, and maximize rewards from the unique Tribute and Favour system.
Identifying and Initiating Ritual Events
On the Atlas, Ritual Altar map nodes are marked with a distinctive red pentagram icon featuring a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Once in a map containing a Ritual, several Altars will spawn. Each map features a shared random modifier impacting enemy types or mechanics. Examples include massive rat swarms or spreading pools of life-draining blood.
Interact with an Altar after examining its modifiers to trigger a large enemy wave. Remain within the designated circle; leaving it prematurely ends the event and forfeits rewards. Successfully completing all Rituals in a map marks it as complete.
Conquering the Pinnacle Boss: The King in the Mists
The 'An Audience With The King' currency item, obtained as a Ritual reward, unlocks access to The Crux Of Nothingness and the King in the Mists Pinnacle Boss fight. Slot this item into your Realmgate on the Atlas map to initiate the encounter.
The King in the Mists' mechanics mirror his campaign counterpart. Practice is available in Act 1 Cruel difficulty within the Freythorn zone. Defeating him grants 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at event-exclusive Uniques, powerful Currencies, and Omen items.
Mastering the Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible via the Atlas Passive Skill Tree screen (bottom right), enhances Ritual events. Nodes reduce Tribute requirements, improve rewards, and boost unique Currency drop rates.
The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Each King in the Mists victory grants 2 skill points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node.
Prioritize these Notable nodes: 'From The Mists', 'Spreading Darkness', and 'Ominous Portents' for optimal reward increases. Subsequently, focus on 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for enhanced Omen and 'An Audience With The King' acquisition chances. A table summarizing Notable nodes and their effects is provided below:
Notable Delirium Passive | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Promised Devotion | Ritual Altar skills deal 25% increased Damage. Deferring Favours requires 50% less Tribute, appearing 50% sooner | N/A |
From The Mists | Rituals contain 2 extra packs of enemies | N/A |
Reinvigorated Sacrifices | Revived monsters gain 20% Toughness and deal 10% more damage; Tribute penalty removed. | From The Mists |
Spreading Darkness | Maps always contain 4 Ritual Altars | N/A |
Between Two Worlds | Rituals always contain a Wildwood Wisp, increasing Tribute earned | Spreading Darkness |
Ominous Portents | Monster waves spawn 25% faster; Favours have a 50% increased chance to contain an Omen | N/A |
He Approaches | Revived monsters have a 20% chance to be Magic or Rare; 50% chance for 'An Audience With The King' | Ominous Portents |
Tempting Offers | Re-roll Favours an extra time at 25% reduced Tribute cost | N/A |
Optimizing Rewards: Tribute and Favours
Completing Rituals yields Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for Favours (randomized items). More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock higher-tier Favours, including Rare gear and high-tier Currencies. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively obtained through Favours.
Favours initially offer Magic items or low-level Currencies, progressing to Rare items and high-tier Currencies with increased Ritual completion. Omen items, powerful modifiers for other Currency items, are also potential rewards.
Omens, like Omens of Annulment or Alchemy, significantly improve crafting potential. Their value often surpasses direct use, making trading a viable option. Regular high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.) also drop from Ritual enemies. The King in the Mists offers a chance at event-exclusive Uniques.
