by Isabella May 05,2025

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the much-anticipated sequel, *Happy Gilmore 2*, set to premiere on the platform on July 25, 2025. In this exciting new chapter, Adam Sandler reprises his iconic role as Happy Gilmore, nearly three decades after the original film's release in 1996. Fans will be thrilled to see the return of beloved cast members Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald, with McDonald once again portraying the antagonist Shooter McGavin.

The trailer introduces new faces to the franchise, including Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (known as Bad Bunny), Adam Sandler's daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler, and Blake Clark. It also features a playful nod to SpongeBob SquarePants, setting the tone for what promises to be a fun-filled sequel.

Netflix has confirmed a lineup of professional golfers making appearances in the film, including John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris. Additionally, NFL star Travis Kelce will make a cameo, adding to the excitement.

For those needing a refresher on the original *Happy Gilmore*, here's Netflix's summary:

At the end of the original *Happy Gilmore*, Sandler’s titular character was finally at rest after a long, strenuous season of golf (and one knockdown brawl with *The Price Is Right’s* Bob Barker). On a mission to raise enough money to pay the IRS for his grandmother’s years of delinquent back taxes (oops), the failed hockey player took his skills on the road as the most unorthodox golf player the Tour Championship had ever seen.

Along the way, Happy made allies (the late, great Carl Weathers’ one-handed Chubbs Petersen and a homeless caddy played by Allen Covert) and enemies (Christopher McDonald’s arrogant Shooter McGavin and the aforementioned Bob Barker), but he ultimately triumphed in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. He showed the golf snobs who’s boss, saved his grandmother’s house, and returned home at last.

It’s currently unclear how the film will resurrect Gilmore’s golf career, but one thing’s for sure: In the real world, at least, Happy Gilmore is a legend. Even the world’s best golfers agree.

The sequel was first announced in March 2024, with Netflix officially ordering the film in May of the same year. *Happy Gilmore 2* is directed by Kyle Newacheck and written by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy, promising to bring back the humor and heart that made the original a classic.
