"Hollow Knight: Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"

by Allison May 13,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong—the much-anticipated game will be available to play at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been eagerly awaited by gamers worldwide and has consistently topped the Steam wishlist charts. Although the exact release date remains under wraps with only a 2025 window announced, the game's presence at ACMI suggests that its launch might be closer than we think.

Visitors to the Melbourne museum will get to experience Silksong as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also feature insights into the game's design and artistic direction. This exhibition promises an in-depth look at the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the intricate logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, shared their excitement about hosting Silksong: "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which showcases some of the design elements that will be on display at the exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, fans are hopeful that the game's release might be imminent, possibly even before that date. The excitement around Silksong has been building, especially after its brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window. The game, initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, has also been confirmed for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Throughout the years, Team Cherry has teased fans with mysterious hints, including a cryptic chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025, fueling speculation about an upcoming re-reveal.
