The Chinese game developer miHoYo and its global subsidiary HoYoverse have applied for a trademark named "Honkai Nexus Anima." While details about this new IP are scarce, the name suggests it might be the third installment in the Honkai series, following the success of Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Star Rail.

The trademark application for Honkai Nexus Anima was initially spotted on the Korea Intellectual Property Information Search’s (KIPRIS) website, which has since been removed. However, the U.S. trademark remains active on the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) website.

The Honkai series began with Honkai Impact 3rd, a free-to-play mobile action RPG that succeeded Houkai Gakuen 2, a classic 2D side-scrolling shooter. In 2023, they released Honkai Star Rail, another free-to-play mobile game but with turn-based gameplay.

Although both games share themes related to space and occasionally similar characters, they exist in distinct universes with unique narratives. Fans speculate that Honkai Nexus Anima will continue this trend, possibly introducing a new genre, given miHoYo’s diverse game portfolio.

Earlier this year, miHoYo posted job listings hinting at their ongoing projects. According to GosuGamers, citing @chibi0108 on Twitter, they are developing an "auto-chess" game featuring "Destined Spirits." Although direct access to the original job listings is unavailable, and these remain speculative, fans have connected Honkai Nexus Anima to this auto-chess game.
