Keanu Reeves Recently Pitched DC Studios on Constantine 2 — and It’s Now Ready for a Script

Keanu Reeves offers the most encouraging update yet on Constantine 2, confirming a script is now in the works.

John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was memorably portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 film adaptation, which achieved cult classic status. For two decades, fans have clamored for a sequel, a desire Reeves has openly shared.

Now, Constantine 2 appears closer to reality following Reeves' confirmation of a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.

"We've been pursuing this film for over a decade, and we recently finalized a story, pitched it to DC Studios, and they approved," Reeves told Inverse. "Our next step is to write the script."

While promising, it's crucial to remember that DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran haven't officially greenlit the Constantine 2 script. The project remains unconfirmed within the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran has publicly acknowledged it. Therefore, the sequel's future remains uncertain.

However, Reeves hinted that if produced, Constantine 2 will remain within the same universe as the original. "We're staying true to the original," he assured, adding with a touch of humor: "John Constantine will endure even more torment."

Reeves' statement follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in September, who revealed the existence of a Constantine 2 script but admitted his apprehension about reading it.

In an interview with ComicBook, di Bonaventura stated that the script was in his inbox, but he was hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for its quality.

"It's in my inbox right now, amusingly enough," he said. "I'm too apprehensive to read it yet; I desperately want it to be excellent. I'll probably read it on my next flight."
