The Heart of Valor quest in Avowed presents a challenging decision regarding Keipo and the Leviathan Heart. As the story unfolds, Chiko discovers Keipo's intention to use the heart to end his life due to the Dreamscourge. Meanwhile, Keipo's narrative about the Leviathan is revealed to be partially untrue, covering up the death of his partner, Umpara. This quest's conclusion hinges on your choice to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart, which significantly impacts the rewards and storyline.

It is highly recommended that you do not give Keipo the Leviathan Heart at the end of Avowed’s “Heart of Valor” side quest. By choosing this path, you open up the opportunity to acquire all possible loot without revealing Keipo's secret to Thirdborn, thereby preserving hope within the community. To achieve this, you must uncover and read Keipo’s Weathered Journal, which is located by activating a button on the curved stone structure near the Leviathan Heart.

Let's first explore the rewards associated with each decision path, followed by the specific dialogue choices needed to obtain everything.

To obtain these armor pieces, when Chiko says, “I’m sorry my uncle is sick…”, select the following dialogue options:

  • “Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge.”
  • “He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe.”
  • “There is one way. We just stopped him from doing it.”

The third option is crucial; choosing incorrectly will upset Chiko, causing them to leave and forfeit the Stormdancer armor set.

How To Get All the Loot in Heart of Valor

To secure all available gear at the end of the Heart of Valor side quest—the Leviathan Heart, Umpara’s Spear, and the entire Stormdancer armor set—without exposing Keipo’s secret to Thirdborn, follow these dialogue choices meticulously after finding Keipo’s Weathered Journal:

Talking to Keipo

  • “We need to talk. Now.”
  • “Come clean. Chiko told me you want to end your life.”
  • “We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you had the Dreamscourge.”
  • “I’m sorry. I can’t give you the heart.”
  • “I respect your choice. But I can’t be a part of it.”
  • “Listen. I…I know what happened to Umpara.”
  • “And? Why didn’t you tell the truth?”
  • “That’s why you really trapped the ruins. So no one would find out.”
  • “No. The truth would do more harm than good.”

Discussing Umpara's fate last is key to obtaining both Umpara’s Spear and the Leviathan Heart.

Talking to Chiko

  • “Don’t worry. It’s right here with me.”
  • “He wanted to take his own life with it. Chiko stepped in to prevent that.”
  • “Let me hold onto it. I’ll take it far away and keep it safe.”
  • “[Lie] No, that was all.”
  • “Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge.”
  • “He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe.”
  • “There is one way. We just stopped him from doing it.”

If you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and receive Umpara’s Spear, you can still obtain the Stormdancer armor set from Chiko by revealing Keipo's Dreamscourge affliction and using the last two dialogue choices listed above. However, this will expose Keipo's secret to Tira Nui Hajime and Thirdborn, diminishing the community's hope and losing the Leviathan Heart.

By following our detailed dialogue choices, you can secure the Stormdancer armor set, Umpara’s Spear, the Leviathan Heart as a trinket, and maintain the community's morale—ensuring a balanced resolution to this poignant quest.
