"Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link Mobile Game Cancelled; Square Enix Focuses on Kingdom Hearts 4"

Square Enix has officially announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the mobile action-RPG that was set to bring players into the realm of Scala ad Caelum through a new original story in the ongoing battle against the Heartless. Originally scheduled for a 2024 release, the game had been generating anticipation among fans eager to experience the next chapter of the beloved franchise on mobile platforms.

In an official statement posted to the game’s X (formerly Twitter) account, Square Enix expressed deep regret for the cancellation, stating: “We wish to convey our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to the start of service.” The company explained that after extensive development efforts, it was determined that delivering a service capable of satisfying players over the long term would be unfeasible.

The statement continued: “Although we worked hard on developing and adjusting the game in the hope that it would be enjoyed by many players, we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development.”

Square Enix also extended its gratitude to those who participated in the game’s beta testing phases, acknowledging the support and assistance provided throughout the development process.

While the news is undoubtedly disappointing for fans of the mobile title, the statement ended with a positive note confirming that the Kingdom Hearts series remains alive and well. The publisher teased that it is “hard at work on Kingdom Hearts 4,” offering reassurance that the iconic franchise will continue to evolve.

This marks the first official update regarding Kingdom Hearts 4 in several months. The last public tease came in January, following the game’s cinematic reveal back in September 2022. Since then, silence from Square Enix has only intensified fan speculation and longing.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously indicated that Kingdom Hearts 4 will begin steering the expansive narrative toward its long-awaited conclusion—an exciting promise for fans who have followed the series across 18 titles spanning more than two decades.

As the wait continues, one thing remains clear: the Kingdom Hearts saga is far from over.
