Death Stranding Broadens Horizons
Anime Adaptation Announced

While a live-action Death Stranding film has been in development, creator Hideo Kojima disclosed that an anime adaptation is also in progress. In a May 28 interview with Vogue Japan, Kojima discussed the upcoming film and casually mentioned the anime project.
He envisions a future where the lines between video games and films blur. Kojima explained, "Kojima Productions’ first phase was to establish the Death Stranding IP across platforms, produce a film, and develop a sequel. The next phase is crafting a project that seamlessly merges games and cinema."

Discussing game adaptations, Kojima highlighted "The Last of Us" for its fidelity to the original story and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" for its fan-focused approach. He aims to create a film worthy of prestigious awards at festivals like Cannes and Venice, adding, "We’re actively developing an anime adaptation as well."
Although Kojima hinted at an anime in a September 2024 Variety interview, this marks the first official confirmation from Kojima Productions. No further details about the project have been released yet.
Hideo Kojima to Appear at Summer Game Fest 2025
Summer Game Fest (SGF) revealed on Twitter (X) on May 27 that Hideo Kojima will speak on June 6 at 2:00 PM PT / 5:00 PM ET / 9:00 PM GMT / 6:00 AM JST. The event will stream live on SGF’s YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter (X) channels.
Fans anticipate updates on Death Stranding 2 (DS2), though Kojima may also discuss projects like OD and Physint. The focus, however, appears to be on DS2’s promotion, with a recent QR code campaign generating buzz for the game.
Fans Await DS2 with Prepper Campaign
Reddit users reported a new QR code initiative by Kojima Productions, linking to a video on the game’s official website. User soldier_ibra noted the studio’s Pocket Tissue campaign in Japan, where QR codes on tissues direct fans to the site.
Kojima tweeted about the campaign on May 23, personally distributing tissues in Tokyo streets. The video, "Prepper Awaiting Porter," shows a brief, uneventful clip inside a Prepper Shelter, a classic Kojima tease. Fans expect more promotional content as the release approaches.
With Death Stranding 2: On The Beach set for release on June 26, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Kojima is ramping up excitement for the sequel to the celebrated action-adventure title. For the latest updates, check our Death Stranding 2: On The Beach article below!
