Set to Open on October 2, 2024
Nintendo's storied history, which spans over a century, will be showcased at the newly constructed Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan. The museum is scheduled to open its doors to the public on October 2, 2024. In a captivating YouTube video tour, Shigeru Miyamoto himself provides a glimpse into the museum's extensive collection of memorabilia and iconic products that have defined Nintendo's legacy in the video game industry.
The museum is built on the historic site of Nintendo's original factory, where the company first produced Hanafuda playing cards in 1889. The modern two-story structure offers fans a detailed journey through Nintendo's history, starting with a welcoming Mario-themed plaza at the entrance.
Miyamoto's tour begins by showcasing a diverse range of Nintendo products from over the decades. From board games, dominoes, and chess sets to remote-controlled cars, the museum will also feature early video game consoles like the Color TV-Game from the 1970s. Additionally, visitors will encounter an array of video game peripherals and unexpected products, such as the "Mamaberica" baby stroller.
A significant exhibit will focus on the Famicom and NES systems, pivotal in Nintendo's history, alongside a display of classic games and peripherals from various regions where Nintendo has operated. The evolution of iconic franchises like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda will also be highlighted, offering visitors a nostalgic journey through these beloved series.
The Nintendo Uji Museum will also feature a large interactive area equipped with giant screens that can be used with smart devices. Here, fans can engage with classic Nintendo titles, such as the Super Mario Bros. arcade game. From its humble beginnings crafting playing cards to becoming a global leader in the gaming industry, the Nintendo Museum promises to bring more "smiles" to its visitors when it opens on October 2, 2024.
