The notorious Krusty Burger emerges as a LEGO set complete with seven minifigures featuring Krusty the Clown, Sideshow Bob, Homer Simpson, and Officer Lou. This greasy Springfield landmark recreates iconic menu items like the Ribwich, The Clogger, and Principal Skinner's infamous Steamed Hams.

We spoke with senior LEGO designer Ann Healy about creating this long-awaited Simpsons set after nearly a decade without new releases.

Designing Springfield's Most Questionable Eatery

Healy: While working previously on LEGO Friends and designing sets like the Sanderson Sisters' Cottage from Hocus Pocus, discovering an old Krusty Burger prototype during my first week at LEGO felt serendipitous. Five years later, when marketing greenlit this project, I immediately volunteered as a lifelong Simpsons fan.

The development process involved:

• 20+ complete rebuilds between digital and physical prototypes
• Collaborative sessions with Disney's IP team
• Structural testing with LEGO's Model Governance team
• Quality assurance builds with final production pieces

Behind The Build

On Research: We deeply analyzed episodes like "Coming to Homerica" (Season 20) featuring the Mother Nature Burger and "I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can" (Season 14) showcasing the Ribwich. The set includes clever references like:

• A drive-thru screen displaying an order for 700 burgers (referencing Krusty's oil rig location)
• The infamous "Krusty Zone" ball pit from "He Loves to Fly and He D'ohs"

On Challenges: Perfecting Krusty's gigantic face sign became our most rewarding obstacle. With Disney providing hand-drawn references, we developed a new axle sleeve element to support its weight.

While unable to confirm future Simpsons sets, Healy expressed hope that fan reception could pave the way for more Springfield adventures in brick form.
