Marvel Sets 'Fantastic Four' Sequel for 2028 Release

Marvel is already planning a follow-up to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, even though the film’s debut is still weeks away.

According to Variety, an untitled Fantastic Four sequel is among several Marvel projects in development without confirmed release dates, including Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 3 and the delayed Blade reboot.

Disney recently announced a fourth Marvel film slated for December 15, 2028, joining three other Marvel releases scheduled for February, May, and November that year, though the project’s title remains undisclosed.

With The Fantastic Four: First Steps yet to hit theaters, Marvel’s early planning for a sequel suggests confidence in the film’s potential success. The studio has also confirmed the movie’s cast will play significant roles in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel’s recent track record prompts questions about which projects might earn sequels, given mixed audience reactions to several films in recent MCU phases.

Eternals is unlikely to see a sequel soon, and low box office returns make follow-ups for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, or Captain America: Brave New World doubtful. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy series may pause following director James Gunn’s exit.
