Marvel Rivals Players Risk Bans
Summary
- NetEase Games has warned that modding Marvel Rivals could lead to account bans, as it violates the game's terms of service.
- Season 1 introduced a hidden anti-modding measure, but modders quickly found workarounds.
- It remains unclear whether NetEase Games has issued any bans for modding Marvel Rivals.
NetEase Games, the developer and publisher behind the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players: continue to mod the game at your own peril. The company has made it clear that any modifications, ranging from cosmetic hero mods to gameplay-enhancing add-ons, are strictly against the game's terms of service and could result in permanent bans.
This announcement follows the launch of Marvel Rivals Season 1, which not only introduced buffs and nerfs to various Heroes but also added Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four to the playable roster. Fans can look forward to the arrival of Human Torch and The Thing in upcoming updates. Since its debut in December 2024, Marvel Rivals has captivated both Marvel Comics enthusiasts and fans of team-based shooters, earning a nomination for Online Game of the Year at the DICE Awards 2025, set to be broadcast live from Las Vegas on February 13.
Despite NetEase Games' efforts to curb modding with a new deterrent in Season 1, some players have found ways to bypass these measures. A notable example is an add-on available on Nexus Mods, created by a user named Prafit, which circumvents the asset hash check that NetEase Games implemented to detect modifications. Prafit has cautioned users that downloading this mod comes with the risk of account bans and recommends it only for those with high-end PCs. Following this, another mod surfaced on social media, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, due to their similar stretchable powers. This mod, crafted by Ercuallo, was showcased in a video by RivalsLeaks on Twitter.
Marvel Rivals Warns Users to Stop Modding or Risk Bans
It is still uncertain whether NetEase Games has handed out any explicit bans for modding Marvel Rivals, but the company's stance on the matter is clear: modding contravenes the game's terms of service, which also prohibit cheats and hacks. While some mods, such as one featuring US President-elect Donald Trump, have been taken down from Nexus Mods, Prafit's Season 1 workaround remains available, boasting over 500 downloads at the time of this writing.
Although Marvel Rivals has experienced issues with false player bans since its launch, the risks associated with violating the game's terms of service have been unambiguously communicated. The future actions of NetEase Games in response to this ongoing issue remain to be seen.
