Michael Douglas Unlikely to Return as Hank Pym in Marvel, Says He's 'Had the Experience'
Michael Douglas, the esteemed actor known for his role as Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Ant-Man series, has indicated that he is likely finished with the MCU. Douglas has graced the screen in four films, including all three Ant-Man movies—the latest being the 2023 release, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which received mixed reviews—and also in "Avengers: Endgame." As production for "Avengers: Doomsday" commences, fans are left wondering if they will see Hank Pym one last time. However, Douglas seems to have closed the door on that possibility.
"I don't think so," Douglas told Deadline when queried about returning for another Marvel project. "I had the experience, and I was excited to do it." His involvement in recent years has been limited to Marvel projects, as he has largely stepped back from acting. However, Douglas remains active as a producer, with over a dozen credits to his name.Reflecting on his time with Marvel, Douglas shared, "I'd never done a green screen picture before. But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time." He has previously expressed a desire for his character, Hank Pym, to meet a dramatic end in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," hoping to enhance the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. However, Marvel opted against this narrative choice.

The disappointing box office performance of "Quantumania" has cast uncertainty over the future of the Ant-Man series. While Paul Rudd is confirmed to reprise his role as Ant-Man in "Avengers: Doomsday," the rest of the Ant-Man family's involvement remains uncertain. Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne may not return, especially after Lilly announced in June 2024 her decision to step away from acting to focus on her family, making her appearance as Wasp in the upcoming film unlikely.
As for what to expect in "Avengers: Doomsday," recent leaks suggest a return to a surprising location from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," stirring excitement and speculation among fans about what the film will bring to the MCU.
