Launched as one of the year's most eagerly awaited games, Monster Hunter Wilds quickly became Capcom's fastest-selling title. Yet, three months post-launch, the game's concurrent player numbers have significantly dropped.

Noted by Monster Hunter enthusiast and YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds' concurrent player count halved since May, now closely trailing the player base of the veteran game, Monster Hunter World. SteamDB reports show MH Wilds reaching a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, inching ever closer to MH World's 26,479.

In contrast, during its third month on Steam, Monster Hunter World boasted over 100,000 concurrent players, far surpassing MH Wilds' current figures of around 40,000. The decline in MH Wilds' popularity is largely attributed to the game's perceived lack of endgame content, even after the release of Title Update 1. However, with the second Title Update scheduled for this summer, fans are hopeful that new monsters, events, and more will revive interest.

MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collaboration Teased

A potential boost for Monster Hunter Wilds could come from an anticipated collaboration with Capcom's iconic fighting game, Street Fighter. A teaser image posted by Monster Hunter on X (formerly Twitter) on May 19 showed a paw mark styled in the urban aesthetics of Street Fighter 6, sparking excitement.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, this crossover wouldn't be unprecedented; Monster Hunter World previously collaborated with Street Fighter, introducing Ryu and Sakura armor sets, paid DLCs like Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, and even a Chun-Li costume for the Handler.

This would be MH Wilds' first collaboration, and fans are buzzing with anticipation over how Capcom will execute this event. The Monster Hunter series has a history of exciting crossovers, including past collaborations with Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Megaman for MH World, among others.

Despite the current dip, there's a strong expectation that MH Wilds' player base will surge again, fueled by the game's upcoming updates and collaborations. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Monster Hunter Wilds, be sure to check out our comprehensive article below!
