"Netflix Secures New Sesame Street Episodes Post-HBO Max Deal"

by Ethan May 21,2025

Fans of the iconic children's show Sesame Street can breathe a sigh of relief as the beloved series, which has been enchanting audiences since 1969, will continue its journey on new platforms. After HBO and Max decided not to renew their deal at the end of 2024, Sesame Street is set to stream on Netflix and PBS, ensuring its continued availability to viewers worldwide.

Starting in 2025, new episodes of Sesame Street will be accessible on Netflix, along with a vast catalog of past episodes. Additionally, these new episodes will be available on the same day they air on PBS stations and PBS Kids in the United States, maintaining the show's longstanding relationship with PBS. This move not only preserves the show's accessibility but also expands its reach globally through Netflix.

In an exciting development for gaming enthusiasts, Netflix's growing gaming division will leverage this partnership to develop video games based on Sesame Street, as well as the spinoff series Sesame Street Mecha Builders. Subscribers will soon be able to play these games directly through the Netflix app using their mobile devices as controllers.

The announcement of this new deal was made on May 19, 2025, via Sesame Street's social media channels. "The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder," stated the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the series.

As Sesame Street enters its 56th season, the show will undergo some structural changes. Each episode will feature an 11-minute story segment, drawing inspiration from successful character-driven children's shows like Bluey. However, classic segments such as Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck will continue to delight fans, ensuring a blend of new and cherished content.

Sesame Street first aired in November 1969 and joined the PBS network in the 1970s, quickly becoming a cultural touchstone. In 2015, HBO and Max entered into a $35 million deal to produce new episodes, a partnership that concluded at the end of 2024. Although HBO and Max have shifted away from children's programming, citing it as less popular among subscribers, the Sesame Street library will remain available on these platforms until 2027, extending the original 10-year agreement but without the production component.
