Square Enix Reveals NieR 15th Anniversary Special Novel

NieR 15th Anniversary Celebration Spans Multiple Mediums

Square Enix marked NieR’s 15th Anniversary with exciting announcements, including new events and projects. During the April 19 livestream, they introduced a special online novel, [U]ndecided Option, for the NieR series.

The novel will roll out in three updates, with the first already live. The next two are slated for April 25 and May 2. The story follows a “servant” who encounters a mysterious boy and embarks on a guided journey.

Square Enix also launched a dedicated NieR 15th Anniversary website, serving as the hub for the online novel and other upcoming projects and events tied to the celebration.

Exhibitions, Concerts, and Exclusive Merchandise

An exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, will showcase new artwork featuring protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Ticket details and further information will be shared later.

New performances for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 were announced for Osaka on July 25 and 26, and Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets are available via lottery, with details on the concert’s official website.

Square Enix also unveiled new merchandise, including a jazz arrangement album from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024, a NieR Weapon Story book with over 650 weapon narratives from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scale figures of the series’ protagonists.

NieR’s first mobile game, Re[in]carnation, will launch a developer blog series on April 28, with monthly updates planned through the year. These posts will detail the creation process behind the game.

Released in January 2021, Re[in]carnation shut down in April 2024 due to monetization challenges. Fans are curious about the sudden focus on a developer blog for a discontinued title, sparking speculation about a potential sequel or remake, though no official confirmation has been made.

The livestream concluded with a 20+ minute live performance featuring iconic soundtracks from the NieR series. Square Enix has more events and merchandise planned for fans in the near future.
