Nintendo Warns Against Switch 2 Screen Protector Removal

by Skylar Oct 06,2025

As the Nintendo Switch 2 launches this week, the company has issued an important reminder: never remove the protective film from the console's screen.

Nintendo recently published a health and safety PDF for the Switch 2, featuring crucial "Usage Guidelines" (via NintendoSoup).

The document specifically states: "This protective film prevents glass fragments from scattering if the screen breaks. Never attempt to remove it."

Essentially, this adhesive layer acts as a safety measure, containing potential glass shards if the screen cracks. Removing it could make the display more hazardous if damaged.

When unboxing your Switch 2 this week, resist the urge to peel off what might look like temporary packaging - it's actually a permanent safety feature.

Additional guidelines advise against using the console in "dusty or smoky environments" - meaning it's not suited for nightclubs or antique bookstores.

"Remember to charge the internal battery at least semi-annually," Nintendo recommends. "Prolonged inactivity may permanently disable battery functionality." Hopefully, you'll be too busy playing Mario Kart World to ever face this issue.

More obvious warnings include: "Never expose the console to extreme heat, cold, direct sunlight, microwaves, or open flames." Sound advice indeed.

After numerous leaks and teasers, Nintendo will officially release the Switch 2 on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

Some lucky fans received early shipments last month, leading to unauthorized unboxing videos and startup footage that Nintendo quickly removed.
