With Summer Game Fest 2025 approaching in just over a week, excitement builds around this year's lineup. On May 28, SGF's official Twitter/X account revealed a record-breaking 60+ partners for the event, including the return of gaming giant Nintendo.

After skipping the previous two SGF events to focus on their Nintendo Direct presentations, Nintendo's comeback is particularly notable as they prepare to launch their next-generation handheld console, the Switch 2.

While Nintendo's participation is confirmed, fans shouldn't expect a full stage presentation. Instead, anticipate potential Switch 2 details and possible trailers for upcoming Switch 2 titles.

Xbox Games Showcase May Spotlight Everwild and State of Decay 3

Xbox continues its annual tradition of participating in the event. Their Xbox Games Showcase will occur during the weekend-long celebration alongside SGF. Beyond expected reveals like the new Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day and Reloaded, and Outer Wilds 2 (which will have its own Direct), two other titles are generating buzz.

State of Decay 3, initially unveiled at Xbox's 2020 showcase, reappeared during Xbox Games Showcase 2024 with a cinematic trailer featuring rendered in-game assets - suggesting substantial development progress.

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer revealed his personal enthusiasm for the franchise during a February 2025 interview with Xbox Era: "State of Decay remains one of my favorite franchises since the original. The team at Double Fine and Tim's leadership approach to gathering feedback excites me."

Spencer also discussed Rare's new IP, Everwild, first announced in 2019 as offering "a unique experience in a natural, magical world." Sharing recent observations from Rare's studio, Spencer noted: "Seeing Everwild's progress during my visit was truly encouraging."

The timing of these comments and growing anticipation suggest both games might feature prominently in this year's Xbox Games Showcase, though official confirmation remains pending.

Viewers can catch the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 on June 8 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET, streaming live on Xbox's YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook channels. The showcase will be immediately followed by The Outer Worlds 2 Direct presentation.
