Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

by Isaac May 25,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two more games from their original Switch versions to the enhanced Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. However, the cost of these upgrades is significantly higher than expected.

While upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each, NintendoLife has revealed that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these new features by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World". Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV", which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, both games feature upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, which is over twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost may be influenced by the $80 price tag of the full Switch 2 Editions of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch counterparts, priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here's the pricing for the full Switch 2 Editions in the U.S.:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for upgrading Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree at this time.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders commenced on April 24, with the console still priced at $449.99. The pre-orders were met with high demand, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed due to overwhelming interest.
