by Nathan May 04,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. While the console's price remains unchanged, a shift in the cost of accessories has sparked a range of reactions among early adopters, potentially influencing their pre-order decisions.

The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 will retail at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World priced at $499.99. Mario Kart World, a beloved kart racing game, is available as a standalone for $79.99, while the new title, Donkey Kong Bananza, will cost $69.99.

However, the price increase is most noticeable in the accessories lineup. Here's a detailed breakdown of the new prices:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

Nintendo's official announcement on their website stated that the price adjustments for Switch 2 accessories were due to changes in market conditions, effective from April 2. Notably, high-value items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera have seen a $5 increase, while the Switch 2 Dock Set has jumped by $10 to $119.99.

The community has expressed surprise and concern over the price hike, particularly for the Joy-Con 2 Pair, which is now just $5 away from a triple-digit price. This significant cost has left many prospective Switch 2 buyers feeling baffled.

Despite the backlash on pricing, there's some good news for those who already own Switch 1 accessories. Nintendo has confirmed that many of these, including original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller, will be compatible with the Switch 2. While the original Joy-Cons can't be directly attached, they can be wirelessly paired, and the same goes for the Switch 1 Pro controller. Additionally, nostalgic gamers will be pleased to know that Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will also work with compatible Switch 2 games.

Social media platforms are buzzing with discussions on Switch 1 accessory compatibility, and some users are even considering third-party controller options. While these might lack certain features like the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they present a cost-effective alternative for some Switch 2 buyers.

Nintendo has cautioned that further price adjustments could occur in the future, depending on market conditions. This possibility adds a layer of uncertainty, but the compatibility of existing Pro controllers with the Switch 2 offers some relief to those concerned about the costs.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025.
