This change was triggered by import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused financial markets to spiral. The ripple effect has crossed borders, with Nintendo Canada confirming that pre-orders in their region are also facing delays. "Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, in order to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a communication to the Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will release updated information in due course. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."
