Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con Mouse Controls Can Be Used to Navigate the Home Menu

by Zoey May 22,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, a feature that has sparked considerable excitement among fans since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2. Last month, we received confirmation that the new Joy-Con can function in "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers across surfaces. The analog sticks on the Joy-Con can be used to mimic left-click and right-click functions, akin to a traditional mouse. Moreover, the versatility of the Joy-Con extends to using two controllers simultaneously in mouse mode, one in each hand, or pairing one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode.

Adding to the excitement, Nintendo has demonstrated this feature on the Nintendo Today app and shared it on X/Twitter. The demonstration showcased how the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls facilitate navigation through the Home menu on the Switch 2. As explained by Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen. To display the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown."

Nintendo further elaborated on the functionality, stating, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. You can use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, players simply need to reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full extent of game compatibility remains unclear, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for its debut on June 5. Pre-orders for the console commenced on April 24, with the price set at $449.99. The pre-order phase has been as successful as anticipated. For more detailed information, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
