by George May 24,2025

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, several key titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring exclusive upgrades. These titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each game's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers unique enhancements. The spotlight first fell on Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which is set to introduce "Jamboree TV," adding innovative features like mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.

Next, we explored the upgrades for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will boast enhanced resolution, framerate, and HDR support. They'll also benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app, "Zelda Notes," offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, along with the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom through QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled "Star-Crossed World," in addition to improved graphics and framerates.

Two highly anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will enjoy enhanced resolution and framerates.

These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original versions on the Switch, upgrade packs will be available for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games began last week with a webpage that briefly mentioned these games in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. The footnote clarified that these upgraded games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
