The absence of a true Sonic Mania sequel, due to Sonic Team's shift away from pixel art and the developers' pursuit of new projects, left a void filled by enthusiastic fan creations. While Sonic Superstars offered a 3D evolution of 2D Sonic gameplay, the timeless appeal of Sonic Mania's pixel art style persists, inspiring games like Sonic Galactic and Sonic and the Fallen Star.

Initially unveiled at the 2020 Sonic Amateur Games Expo, Sonic Galactic has been in development for at least four years. Imagining a hypothetical 32-bit Sonic game for 5th-generation consoles (a "what-if Sega Saturn" scenario), the game blends retro aesthetics with unique additions.

Gameplay and Characters:

The second demo, released in early 2025, features the iconic trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in fresh, exciting zones. Joining the team are two new playable characters: Fang the Sniper (from Sonic Triple Trouble), seeking revenge against Dr. Eggman, and Tunnel the Mole, a character originating from Illusion Island.

Each character boasts unique gameplay paths within each zone, mirroring the structure of Sonic Mania. Special stages, heavily inspired by Mania, challenge players to collect rings within a time limit in a 3D environment. A typical playthrough focuses on Sonic's stages (approximately one hour), with other characters offering shorter, individual stages. The total playtime for the demo is estimated around two hours.
