Nvidia RTX 5060 Is Finally Here, But You Might Want to Wait

by Benjamin May 23,2025

Nvidia unveiled the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti in April 2025, and now the more budget-friendly RTX 5060 is hitting the market, following its announcement at Computex. Priced starting at $299, the RTX 5060 boasts 3,840 CUDA cores spread across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, making it well-suited for 1080p gaming. Nvidia boldly claims that this GPU can achieve up to 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p on max settings, though this performance is enhanced by 4x Multi-Frame Generation.

The highlight of this generation of Nvidia graphics cards is undoubtedly Multi-Frame Generation, and the RTX 5060 fully supports this feature along with the entire DLSS 4 technology suite. However, it's important to note that with only 30 SMs, there are limits to what DLSS can achieve. Also, while the RTX 5060 starts at $299, higher-priced models will offer additional features such as factory-tuned overclocking and RGB lighting.

Reviews Are Coming... Later

Despite its affordability, it's wise to hold off on purchasing the RTX 5060 until performance reviews are available. Nvidia's performance claims are impressive but rely heavily on Multi-Frame Generation. We'll need to see independent lab tests to confirm these numbers. Unfortunately, there will be a delay in reviews as Nvidia isn't providing early drivers to the press, so expect a wait of about a week before seeing comprehensive reviews.

The RTX 5060 should perform well at 1080p, but the broader Blackwell series has faced challenges with generational improvements. The RTX 5060's performance uplift over the RTX 4060 is expected to be around 20% in games without ray tracing or frame generation, with Nvidia claiming up to double the performance when frame generation is enabled. As with any high-cost tech product, waiting for detailed reviews is advisable to ensure you're getting the best value for your money. Those reviews are on their way, just be patient for a few more days.
