Palworld Introduces Crossplay in Major March Update

Pocketpair, the developer behind the massively popular game Palworld, is gearing up for a significant update slated for late March 2025. This eagerly awaited update will introduce crossplay functionality, enabling seamless multiplayer experiences across all platforms. Additionally, it will feature a new world transfer option for Pals, enhancing the gameplay experience. The announcement came via a post on X/Twitter, accompanied by a striking promotional image showcasing various Palworld characters engaging in combat with a formidable Pal.

John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will also be part of the March update, adding to the excitement for the game's 32 million players who have joined since its early access launch in January 2024.

The studio has shared a comprehensive content roadmap for 2025, promising not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and additional new content for the creature-catching survival game that has captured the hearts of players worldwide.

Palworld made a splash when it launched on Steam for $30 and simultaneously on Xbox and PC via Game Pass in January 2024. The game shattered sales records and achieved unprecedented concurrent player numbers. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, admitted that the game's launch success was so overwhelming that the developer struggled to manage the enormous profits. Capitalizing on this success, Pocketpair quickly moved to expand the Palworld franchise, signing a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, which is focused on broadening the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.

However, the road ahead is not without challenges. Pocketpair faces a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege that Palworld has infringed on "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has adjusted the mechanics of how players summon Pals within the game and is prepared to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
