Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile (PoE) 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then pushed to mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unforeseen challenges encountered with the launch of Path of Exile 2.

GGG had previously committed to continued support for PoE 1 even after the release of PoE 2. However, the development team was reassigned to address critical issues with PoE 2's endgame before its December launch. While GGG initially believed they could return to PoE 1's 3.26 update in February, the severity of PoE 2's launch problems, including crashes and balance issues, necessitated their continued focus on the sequel.

In a video statement, Jonathan Rogers, PoE 2 game director and GGG co-founder, acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. He admitted to underestimating the time required to resolve PoE 2's problems and the impact of diverting the PoE 1 team. Rogers expressed regret for the delay and the lack of a concrete release date for the 3.26 update.

PoE 2, launched on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, experienced a highly successful launch, becoming one of Steam's most played games. Despite this success, the challenges encountered highlighted the complexities of simultaneously managing two major game titles.

GGG is committed to learning from this experience and developing a more effective studio structure for future projects. While a release date for PoE 1's 3.26 update remains uncertain, GGG assures players that a plan is in place for its eventual release.
