Peacemaker Season 2 arrives just over a month after the July 11 release of Superman, marking the third entry in the new DCU, following the Creature Commandos TV series which kicked off the revamped universe late last year. Under the direction of James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, the new DCU diverges from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the old universe will carry over into the new.

Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this continuity. While Season 1 was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 will fully integrate into the new DCU. James Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though the specifics of what will transition from the old to the new universe remain under wraps. Gunn has confirmed that all of Team Peacemaker will return with the same cast, including John Cena leading the charge as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
